Further changes to the game include the addition of treasure, weapons that were added into The Second Encounter can now be found in some of The First Encounter levels, and a different save system. This is not an expansion but the second part of a larger two part game in which the second encounter builds upon the first.
A fan-made level-pack, Dark Island, was included in Serious Sam: Gold. The glorious high-definition (HD) chaos from The First Encounter continues now in Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter, a remake of the classic arcade FPS Serious Sam: The Second Encounter, which originally scored an overall of 85% on Metacritic and was awarded Game of The Month on Gamespot! Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter Serious Sam series. Identical to Serious Sam: The First Encounter's gameplay, The Second Encounter consists almost entirely of the player attempting to defeat dozens of enemies at a time in wide-open arena-like areas and thus is relatively simple. The level design of Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter still centres around lots of big square arenas of death with locked doors in between, and it turns out that once more the keys to said doors are fashioned from the shredded corpses of your enemies. It is a stand-alone expansion pack to the first game, and the second installment in the Serious Sam series. During the end credits, Sam activates the back-up starship, which turns out to be a rocket, and travels back into space toward Sirius, with the "Croteam Big-Heads" cheering him on. Turn to the right from the entrance and blast the darker section on the perimeter wall to discover some items.
